Preventing Constipation

What’s essential for budgies’ overall health is to prevent constipation in budgies as constipation may result in serious health problems or even death if left untreated. So, we must take care and do as the preventions say. Together, we’ll be able to prevent constipation in our budgies.

First, we’ll offer water as lack of water may also result in constipation, dehydration, or death. Next, we’ll have to offer the budgie plenty of exercise as exercise is really important for budgies’ overall health. As told before, lack of exercise is one of the causes of constipation and we certainly don’t want our budgies to get constipated, so, we must protect it by giving it plenty of toys, leafy greens, and a place to freely fly in.

Natural Remedies

Fluids are essential for keeping a happy and healthy pet budgie. You can give fluids to your budgie in fresh fruits or water.

Bathing or showering your pet budgie will give positive effects on your budgie. A shallow dish or spray bottle with water will do you good as bathing or showering not only helps hydrate the budgie’s body, but also helps in challenging their bowel movements.

While showering or bathing and fluids fight constipation in budgies, exercise is essential. Letting your budgie fly freely in a room and have lots of toys to play with is needed. Exercise helps their digestive system and keeps their muscles active.

Recommended Diet

While leafy greens like spinach and kale are essential for constipated budgies, fruits like apples, pears, and berries and vegetables like peppers, tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers are also helpful. Including fiber-rich foods in their diet is essential, too. You should also give a small amount of oily seeds to your budgie.

If your budgie’s constipation remains for more than a day or two, you’ll have to take it to the vet immediately as constipation kills budgies if left untreated.
