Cutie Budgian The Female Budgie

I told you about getting my first pet birds and you can read about the event here. Cutie was one of my first birds (Cutie and White) and she was an unpleasant female bird. First, my father suggested the name Yully (from yellow) for her, but I insisted on naming her Cutie. Of course, I didn’t give her a nickname, but we sometimes called her, “cute” because we liked her and at first, we didn’t know that she was bad.

On June 3, 2022, Cutie laid her first egg and finished her clutch (which consisted of 6 eggs) on June 15, 2022. She forced White to feed her and when I showed him my toys, she stuck her head out and watched. She didn’t want White to play with me, she wanted him all to herself. I used to sit on a stool and talk to him while he sang and fed Cutie, but the problem was with her. She didn’t cheep in these days, but she hit White a lot. She flapped her wings and scolded him.

On June 17, 2022, White broke one of Cutie’s eggs. She screamed and scolded him. On June 18, 2022, White broke another egg. Only 4 eggs were left in the nest box. We thought that White broke the two eggs because he was angry at Cutie, although we were wrong. He broke the eggs because the clutch consisted of 6 eggs and he thought that all of them were going to hatch. Of course, he didn’t want to feed 6 chicks. After about two weeks, Cutie began cheeping and we tried to punish her, but she kept cheeping. On December 4, 2022, she laid her second clutch of eggs and finished laying her 3 eggs on December 10, 2022. There were chicks inside the eggs, but they didn’t hatch because Cutie didn’t sit on them or roll them.

When Cutie laid a clutch of 2 eggs that was followed by another clutch of 2 eggs, we cleaned the nest box. Cutie kept hitting White. I saw her lay White on the ground and fight with him. We thought that is was a mating dance, but we were wrong. We saw Cutie hit White by his neck and injure his neck. Before we saved him, Cutie injured his head. We separated them. On January 13, 2023, Cutie Budgian died. I was sad.
